Collab with Woodcutter's Brewing

Collab with Woodcutter's Brewing

It's that time of year, the darker months of winter, when we do our annual collaboration brew with our friends at WOODCUTTER'S BREWING!  The beer will be releasing this TUESDAY, Dec 17th!

                   What did we brew?

Let us introduce you to… DUELING CHAINSAWS XPA!

                  Wait, what's an XPA?

It stands for Extra Pale Ale!

                 Extra what?

For a bit of background, the first XPAs emerged from the US around the early 2000s.  They didn't end up lasting very long, since the craze for even hoppier IPAs took the spotlight. But more recently, the XPA torch has been taken up by the Australians, where these beers are incredibly popular due to their hoppy yet drinkable nature.  Brewmaster Scott from Woodcutter's Brewing was in Australia a few months back and couldn't get enough of these XPAs. So we thought to give it a try together!

As far as we can tell, the extra stands for ‘extra' pale in colour and ‘extra' hop character.  Expect something more hop forward than your typical pale ale, but less hoppy than an IPA.  XPAs are made for their drinkability, with their light malt body and refreshingly dry finish. They are perfect for showcasing the citrus and tropical hop notes of the southern hemisphere hops from Oz and NZ.  We decided to showcase Eclipse hops from Australia and Motueka hops from New Zealand for a zippy citrus forward hop aroma and flavour with a touch of tropical fruit.

OUR BREW DAY

It was our turn to host the brew day (we brewed our last collab at Woodcutter's in January 2024).  We had quite the crew for the brewday with good representation from both sides! We even had some cameos from some special guests who popped in here and there.

Collab days are always fun, as everyone pitches in here and there to make the work easy. Teamwork really is the dream work in this scenario and it's so great to have good industry friends in the Yukon!

The grain milling crew!

Mashing in right on time!

All hands on deck!  Teamwork makes the dream work!
