We're Bottling

We're Bottling

We've reached a new step at Winterlong: bottling our beer.

After 4 months of researching, planning, logistics and finally ordering equipment and supplies, we have successfully filled 650 mL bottles (bombers) with delicious beer.  Let me tell you, the minimum quantities required to get into bottling made us a little queasy. The minimum order for custom bottle caps you ask?  One hundred thousand.  We ended up having to buy a shipping container just to store the 27,000 bottles we had to order to get a reasonable price break. The nausea has finally passed.

There's something much more satisfying about holding a bottle of beer with it's own name on a label.  It seems to give it a life of its own.  The label gives it an identity.  The bottle gives it a physical presence, something you can visualize and hold on to.

We wanted to keep the labels simple, for both flexibility and to stand out against all of the noise that clutters the beer shelves.  All we have to do is change the colour and the name and we have a new label.  Local graphic artist Mary Binsted helped design the labels, and focused on keeping them clean, modern, slightly elegant, yet approachable.

So, what beer are we bottling?  Well, the flexibility of the labels means we can easily bottle any beer we want.  We are starting with the following lineup, and will have a few more speciailty beers this winter:

  • Pingo Pale Ale
  • Weekend Warrior IPA
  • Sinister Rouge Red IPA
  • Nightshade Black IPA
  • Reckless Abandon Double IPA
  • Log Splitter Smoked Porter

And where can you find our bottled beer?  We'll be selling it at the brewery for sure, and we're sending a couple of pallets to the Whitehorse liquor store right away, just in time for the holidays.  The ability to have bottles in the Whitehorse liquor store will really increase the convenience for people to get our beer.  So, come and grab a couple of bottles and let us know what you think.
